| 19th Annual Golf Benefit Exceeds
All Expectations!
The 19th Annual Meals-on-Wheels Golf Benefit, played September
14th at Hidden Creek Golf Course in Burleson, was the most successful
golf benefit ever held for Meals-on-Wheels. “The monies raised
by the event to support Meals-on-Wheels exceeded $65,000,”
said Ike Vera, Golf Chairman. “The support shown, from golfers
and sponsors and volunteers and everyone involved was truly incredible!”
Vera added.
With a full field—morning and afternoon—golfers and
volunteers enjoyed a fun-filled day of food and fun! Along with
sponsors, 292 golfers, and over 100 volunteers, the event raised
much needed monies to feed the homebound elderly and disabled persons
in our community.
Top-flight winners were the first place Community Bank team with
Tim Southerland, Dusty Rumfield, Jason Williams, and Justin Witherspoon;
the second place team of Mike Schmitt, Mike Battle, Bret Myers,
and Louie Terrazas; and the third place team of Keith Winnet, George
Marshall, Randy Pitcock and Kevin Winnet. Bottom flight winners
were the first place team of Brent Magers, James McGehee, Tim Lewellen,
and Robert Johnson; the second place team of Shane Harris, Rick
Gilliland, Rod Nelson, and Randy Hammer; and the third place KTFW
team with Mike Crow, Marlee Ellis, Joel Gough, and Gary Keller.
The morning “Closest-to-the-Pin” winner was Dusty Rumfield
at 8’ 1/4” and the afternoon winner was James Wallace
with 5’ 1”. The prizes given away to the winners totaled
over $5,000! In addition this year, there were lots of great raffle
prizes valued at over $2,000 given away, including round-trip Southwest
Airline tickets, Texas Rangers and NASCAR tickets, and much more!
Vera credited the day’s huge success to everyone that participated,
supported, and helped put the event together. “The community
rallied in support of Meals-on-Wheels to help us raise this money.
This will help us feed a lot of needy homebound people, and that
is what this event is all about! And to those who helped make this
all possible, we are truly thankful!”
Local media, KTFW 92.1 FM/The Ranch Radio, Cleburne Times-Review,
and the Star Group papers promoted the event and KTFW was
there for a live remote during the big day, which helped in the
success of the event. Also, a special thank you is extended to the
Hidden Creek staff for cooking chicken, and assisting on the course.
Again, a BIG thanks goes out to all those people who made this
event so successful. Meals-on-Wheels will see you next year at the
20th Annual Golf Benefit!
